Often called "Boston's Left Bank", Cambridge is located directly across the Charles River from Boston. Known for being home to two of the world's leading educational institutions, Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge holds a wealth of knowledge within its borders. Cambridge is known to some as the "City of Squares" - Central Square, Harvard Square, Inman Square, Kendall Square, and Porter Square. Central Square, located between Harvard and MIT, is home to many international restaurants, pubs, music houses and dance clubs. Harvard Square is the area surrounding Harvard University, and is famous for the many eclectic boutiques, restaurants and cafes, bookstores, and street performers. Inman Square has become a lively area with an international presence, and is known for its abundance of noteworthy architecture and excellent restaurants. Kendall Square - home to MIT and the Museum of Science, and a hub for many booming technology companies - is located right along the Charles River.
